New Forum (bbPress)
Creates a forum from inside the app. Most members will not see the form — see below.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”| Plugin | bbPress — or BuddyBoss Platform with its Forums component on |
| Endpoint group | bbPress |
| Plan | Every plan |
| Needs | The publish_forums capability — Moderator and Keymaster, not Participant |
Who can use it
Section titled “Who can use it”bbPress does not give ordinary members permission to create forums. A Participant — the role most of your members will have — opens this screen and sees a short notice saying only moderators can create forums, rather than a form whose submit would always be refused.
Place it in a drawer your moderators use, not in the bottom bar.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Title, Description | Shown above the form | Empty |
| Visibility | What the form opens on | Public |
| Restrictions | Which roles see the tab | Everyone |
Visibility
Section titled “Visibility”| Option | Who can read the forum |
|---|---|
| Public | Everyone |
| Private | Any signed-in member — not a chosen few |
| Hidden | Moderators only |
This is bbPress’s own model, and private is the one worth reading twice: it means every signed-in participant. For a staff-only forum, choose Hidden.
The member can still change it on the form; this setting only decides the starting point.
