Forums (bbPress)

The forum list, for sites running bbPress rather than ForumWP. Every forum a member may see, with its description, how busy it is, and its topics one tap away.

Drag Forums — the card showing the bbPress logo — onto a navigation bar or into the side drawer.

Place Forum Feed alongside it if you also want a single list of everything, which is how most members prefer to read.

Searching flattens the tree: a matching forum inside a category that does not match would otherwise be invisible.

bbPress has no category taxonomy. A forum is either a category, which holds other forums and no topics, or a forum, which holds topics. Only forum rows open; a category row is a heading. A category’s counts include everything in the forums beneath it, so the number means something.

bbPress has three visibility tiers, and the middle one surprises people:

TierWho can read it
PublicEveryone, signed in or not
PrivateAny signed-in member — bbPress grants this to the Participant role by default
HiddenModerators and keymasters only

Private does not mean a chosen few. If you want a forum only your team can read, make it Hidden. The app draws a padlock badge on anything that is not public, and never lists a forum the viewer may not open.
