Forum Moderation
The moderator’s screen: topics waiting on a decision, grouped into queues, with approve, restore, spam and trash on each row.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”| Plugin | ForumWP |
| Also uses | ForumWP Pro, optional — for the Pending queue |
| Endpoint group | Forums |
| Plan | Every plan |
Add it to your app
Section titled “Add it to your app”Drag Forum Moderation onto a navigation bar or into the side drawer, and set its Restrictions to the roles that moderate.
The restriction is a courtesy, not the security boundary: the site refuses these queues to anyone without the moderation capability regardless of what the app shows, and the screen says so plainly rather than showing an empty list.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Title, Description | Shown at the top | Empty |
| Queues | Which of Pending, Spam, Reported and Trash to offer | All four |
| Restrictions | Which roles see the tab | Everyone — set this |
How a topic row is proportioned — the vote arrows, avatar, badge, card corners and reply indent — is set once for every forum screen under Global App Settings → Appearance → Forums.
What your members see
Section titled “What your members see”| Queue | Holds | Needs |
|---|---|---|
| Pending | Topics awaiting approval | Pro post-moderation module |
| Spam | Topics marked as spam | ForumWP |
| Reported | Topics members have reported | ForumWP |
| Trash | Trashed topics | ForumWP |
Pending is dropped on a site without the post-moderation module, because nothing can ever land there.
Each row shows the topic, its author, its state and how many reports it carries, with the two most useful verbs as buttons — approve and decline, restore and delete — and the rest in the row’s menu. Tapping the row opens the topic itself, where replies can be moderated the same way.

Which controls appear
Section titled “Which controls appear”Every control on this screen comes from the site’s own answer about that particular row and that particular moderator. Nothing is decided by the app, so a verb your role cannot use never appears, and a verb a missing ForumWP Pro module never provides never appears either.
That is also why a moderator sees more controls here than an ordinary member does on the same topic elsewhere in the app.
When it does not work
Section titled “When it does not work”| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| “You do not have permission to moderate this forum” | The role lacks the capability | Grant it in ForumWP, or restrict the tab |
| Pending is missing | The post-moderation module is off | Turn it on in ForumWP → Settings → Modules |
| A queue is empty | Nothing is waiting in it | Nothing to do |
| No buttons on a row | Your role cannot act on that row | Check the role’s ForumWP capabilities |
| The card is greyed out | ForumWP is inactive | Activate it |
