Feature to plugin matrix

Which plugin each feature needs active on the connected site. A feature whose plugin is missing is greyed out in the builder — see A feature is greyed out.

Plugin names are written as they appear in your WordPress plugin list, so you can match them without translating.

These work on any WordPress site, including one that has never had Ultimate Member installed.

Every one of these needs BuddyPress or BuddyBoss Platform — never both, and never a choice you have to make: BuddyBoss is BuddyPress and bbPress forked and merged, and it refuses to run beside either, so your site already has whichever one it has and these screens work on it.

Each also needs its own component switched on. That is the part people miss, so it has a column of its own — and the two plugins call the same components different things, so there is a column for each.

A component that is switched off behaves like a plugin that is not installed: the card stays greyed out, and its endpoint group cannot be enabled at all. BuddyPress ships Groups, Private Messages and Friend Connections switched off, and BuddyBoss ships most of its optional components off, so this is the usual culprit either way. Check Settings → BuddyPress → Components, or Settings → BuddyBoss → Components, first.

BuddyBoss’s own components — Photos, Documents, Videos, Moderation and Email Invites — are not covered by these screens yet. Its bundled Discussion Forums are: the bbPress forum screens serve them, with the Forums component switched on.

Two entries need both halves. Either one missing leaves the card greyed out.

Chat, Chat (Better Messages) and Chat (BuddyPress) each store their conversations in their own plugin’s tables. All three may be placed in one app — each carries its own realtime channel and push source — but a member with two chat tabs has two unrelated inboxes, so one is almost always the right number.
