Job Categories
Your job categories as a native screen, each with how many jobs it holds. Tapping a category opens the jobs in it.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”| Plugin | JobBoardWP, with Job Categories on (General → Job) |
| Endpoint group | Jobs |
| Plan | Every plan |
Placing the feature switches the Jobs group on for you when your site is connected. The categories list has a switch of its own inside that group, jobs_categories. A site that enabled Jobs before Memberside 2.34 has it off, so check it under Memberside → REST API if the screen stays empty.
Add it to your app
Section titled “Add it to your app”Drag Job Categories onto a navigation bar or into the side drawer.
Tapping a category opens the job board filtered to that category, and tapping a job there opens the Job screen, which is added to the background for you.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Title, Description | Shown at the top | Empty |
| Show empty categories | Lists categories that have no jobs in them yet | On |
| Job counts | The number of jobs beside each category | On |
| Search icon on the back bar | A search icon on the back bar, and on a category’s jobs, that opens your app’s Search screen. It shows only when Search is added to the app | Off |
| Restrictions | Which roles see the tab | Everyone |
What your site’s settings change
Section titled “What your site’s settings change”| JobBoardWP setting | What changes in the app |
|---|---|
| Job Categories (General → Job) | Off: the screen says categories are switched off on this site, instead of listing them |
| Hide filled jobs (General → Jobs List) | Filled jobs are left out of the counts |
| Hide expired jobs (General → Jobs List) | Expired jobs are left out of the counts |
What your members see
Section titled “What your members see”Every category, in the order JobBoardWP keeps them, with subcategories indented under their parent. A category’s count is the jobs filed directly in it, as on the website, so a parent does not add up its subcategories.
Tapping a category opens its jobs, with the same cards, search and filters as Jobs. The location field there suggests only the locations of that category’s jobs.
When it does not work
Section titled “When it does not work”| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| “Job categories are switched off” | Job Categories is off in JobBoardWP | Turn it on in JobBoardWP → General → Job |
| The screen is empty and the site has categories | The jobs_categories switch is off | Turn it on in Memberside → REST API, under Jobs |
| The card is greyed out | JobBoardWP is inactive | Activate it |
| A parent shows 0 but its subcategories have jobs | Counts are direct, not rolled up | Working as intended |
| The search icon does not show | Search is not added to the app, or the screen shows the top navigation bar instead of a back bar | Add Search to a navigation bar or the side drawer, or hide the top navigation on this feature |
| A category is missing | It has no jobs and Show empty categories is off | Turn the setting on |
| The count is lower than wp-admin shows | Filled or expired jobs are hidden by Hide filled jobs or Hide expired jobs | Working as intended |
