Jobs
Your site’s job board as a native screen. Members browse published jobs as a list or on a map, filter them down by place, type and category, open one to apply, and post a job of their own.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”| Plugin | JobBoardWP |
| Optional | Ultimate Member - JobBoardWP, for the Jobs and Job dashboard profile tabs. The board itself reads JobBoardWP directly |
| Endpoint group | Jobs. Maps too, for Google place matches in the location field and the map |
| Plan | Every plan |
| For the map | A Google Maps SDK key per platform for the built app, and a Google Maps API key under Memberside → API Keys for Google place matches. The builder preview’s map is Memberside’s own and needs neither |
Every Memberside endpoint is off until it is enabled. Placing any job feature switches the Jobs group on for you when your site is connected. If the site was not connected at the time, turn it on yourself under Memberside → REST API — see Enable the endpoints you need.
The map page has a switch of its own in the Jobs group, jobs_mapview, and so do the location suggestions, jobs_locations in the Profile Jobs group. Both follow the jobs list switch until you set them separately, so a site that already serves the board serves them too.
Add it to your app
Section titled “Add it to your app”Drag Jobs onto a navigation bar or into the side drawer.
Tapping a job opens it natively. You do not have to place anything for that — the Job screen is added to the background for you, and you can open its settings from the preview.
Most job boards also place My Jobs, so the people who post jobs can find and manage them again. Place Job Moderation too if your site holds new jobs for approval, and Job Categories for a screen that browses by category.
To show the map in the built app:
- Set a Google Maps API key under Memberside → API Keys → Google Maps Platform.
- Set Google Maps SDK key (Android) and (iOS) on the same card — one per platform, because Google restricts a key to Android apps or to iOS apps, never both. See Connection and API keys for why these are two keys.
- Run a new build. Each platform’s key is compiled into its own app.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Title, Description | Shown at the top | Empty |
| Search box | A search box above the list, and a location field under it. The search matches the job title, the description and the company name | On |
| Filter chips | A row of job type and category chips, and a Remote only switch | On |
| Map view | A List / Map switch above the jobs | On |
| Map colours | The map’s own palette. On the Appearance tab, and only while Map view is on | Automatic |
| Opens on | Whether the screen opens on the list or the map | List |
| Remote jobs only | Lists remote jobs and nothing else. Members cannot switch it off | Off |
| Only these job types | Limits the board to the types you pick. Empty lists every type | Empty |
| Only these categories | Limits the board to the categories you pick. Empty lists every category | Empty |
| Post a job button | A button that opens the Post a Job form | On |
| Company logos | The company logo on each card | On |
| Restrictions | Which roles see the tab | Everyone |
Only these job types and Only these categories narrow what members can filter by as well as what is listed, so a board limited to two types offers those two chips and no others.
Post a job button is drawn for a signed-in member, and for a visitor who is not signed in when your site lets guests post. See Posting without an account.
Map colours is the same palette list the Members Map offers — Automatic follows your app’s light / dark mode, and the named palettes are used in both. See Members Map for what each one looks like. It colours the map only; the job pins are unchanged.
Map view needs the map keys. In the built app the switch is hidden when your site has no Google Maps SDK key, and the list is all members see.
What your site’s settings change
Section titled “What your site’s settings change”The app reads JobBoardWP’s own settings each time the screen opens, so a change in wp-admin reaches the app on the next pull-to-refresh, with no rebuild.
| JobBoardWP setting | What changes in the app |
|---|---|
| Job Categories (General → Job) | Off: no category chips, no category on cards, and Only these categories does nothing |
| Enable salary (General → Job) | Off: no salary on cards |
| Currency (General → Job) | The symbol, and which side of the amount it sits |
| Hide filled jobs (General → Jobs List) | Filled jobs leave the board and the map |
| Hide expired jobs (General → Jobs List) | Expired jobs leave the board and the map |
| Hide Logos (General → Jobs List) | No logos, whatever Company logos says |
| Account Needed, User Registration (General → Job Submission) | Whether a visitor who is not signed in sees Post a job |
What your members see
Section titled “What your members see”A scrolling list of jobs, featured jobs first and then the newest. Each card shows the company logo, the job title, the company, the location — Remote for a remote job — the job type badges in the colours set in JobBoardWP, the salary where there is one, and how long ago it was posted.
Search and the chips sit above the list. Tapping a card opens the job. The search box and the location field each have a clear button that empties what was typed and shows the whole board again.
The location field suggests places as a member types. First come the locations your own jobs are posted at, each with how many jobs are there, busiest first. Picking one lists the jobs at that location. On a category’s board, opened from Job Categories, only that category’s locations are offered.
When your site has a Google Maps API key, Google’s matching places follow your own, below a divider. Picking one of those filters the board to that city, state or country. Either way, the pick shows as a chip with its own clear button. Without a key, the field still offers your jobs’ own locations.
Map draws a pin for every job in view that has a location. Tapping a pin opens that job’s card, and tapping the card opens the job. Jobs saved with a plain text location, and remote jobs with no address, have no pin — they are still on the list.
Not in the app
Section titled “Not in the app”These parts of JobBoardWP and its Ultimate Member bridge stay on the website:
- The Jobs tab that Ultimate Member - JobBoardWP adds to the account page.
Tapping a job approved or job expired push notification opens the author’s profile, not the job. The same notification in the app’s notification list opens the job.
When it does not work
Section titled “When it does not work”| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The list is empty and the site has jobs | The Jobs endpoint group is off | Turn it on in Memberside → REST API |
| The card is greyed out | JobBoardWP is inactive | Activate it |
| “JobBoardWP is not available on this site” | JobBoardWP was deactivated after the app was built | Activate it again |
| No category chips | Job Categories is off in JobBoardWP | Turn it on, or leave it off deliberately |
| No salaries on any card | Enable salary is off in JobBoardWP | Turn it on |
| Logos are missing with Company logos on | Hide Logos is on in JobBoardWP | Turn it off in JobBoardWP |
| A filled or expired job is missing | Hide filled jobs or Hide expired jobs is on | Working as intended |
| No Post a job button for a visitor | Your site needs an account and does not create one on submit | Turn on User Registration in JobBoardWP, or sign in |
| No Post a job button for a member | Post a job button is off | Turn it on |
| A job a member posted is not on the board | It is waiting for approval | Approve it in Job Moderation or wp-admin |
| No List / Map switch in the built app | No Google Maps SDK key was set when the app was built, or Map view is off | Set the key and rebuild, or turn the setting on |
| The preview shows a flat plate, not a map | Rare now: Memberside draws the preview’s map with its own key, so this means our map could not load — a blocked network, or an ad blocker stopping maps.googleapis.com | Reload the builder. Your own keys are not involved, and a working preview is not evidence the app’s map will work |
| A grey tile where the map should be | The server key was used as an SDK key, the key belongs to the other platform, or Maps SDK for Android or iOS is not enabled on it | Set the right key for each platform, enable each SDK, and rebuild |
| A job is on the list but not on the map | It was saved with a plain text location, so it has no coordinates | Edit the job and pick its location from the suggestions |
| No location field | Search box is off | Turn it on |
| The location field offers no suggestions | Your site runs a Memberside plugin older than 2.70.0, or the jobs_locations switch is off | Update the plugin, or turn the switch on in Memberside → REST API, under Profile Jobs |
| Only your jobs’ own locations are suggested, no Google places | Your site has no Google Maps API key, or the Maps group is off | Set the key, and enable the group |
| A location is missing from the suggestions | No job the board lists is at it — remote jobs with no address, filled and expired jobs your site hides, and jobs waiting for approval are not counted | Working as intended |
