Forum Feed
The forum’s home screen: topics from every forum a member can see, newest first, with the forum each one came from named on the card.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”| Plugin | ForumWP |
| Also uses | ForumWP Pro, optional — see What ForumWP Pro adds |
| Endpoint group | Forums, and Forums Pro when Pro is active |
| Plan | Every plan |
Add it to your app
Section titled “Add it to your app”Drag Forum Feed onto a navigation bar or into the side drawer.
Tapping a topic opens it natively. You do not have to place anything for that — the topic screen is added to the background automatically, and you can open its settings from the preview to give it a title of its own.
Most communities place Forums alongside it, so members can browse by forum as well as read everything at once.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Title, Description | Shown at the top | Empty |
| Sort topics by | Which tab opens first: New, Active, Most viewed or Top | New |
| Search | Shows a search box above the feed | On |
| Compact rows | Drops the excerpt and the view count so more topics fit | Off |
| Action text size, Icon size | The reply count, views, heart and Save on each card. Forum Feed’s cards only — the topic they open is sized under Forum Topic | Empty — as drawn now |
| Open author profiles in | Which Profile feature a tap on an author’s photo or name opens, or Don’t link. Lists every placed Profile, plus Member Profile (BuddyPress) | The first Profile placed |
| Restrictions | Which roles see the tab | Everyone |
How a topic row is proportioned — the vote arrows, avatar, badge, card corners and reply indent — is set once for every forum screen under Global App Settings → Appearance → Forums.
Members can still switch sort themselves — the setting only chooses which tab opens first. Top appears only when ForumWP Pro’s votes module is on; without it the app hides that option rather than showing an order nothing produces.
What your members see
Section titled “What your members see”A scrolling list of topics. Each card shows the forum it belongs to, the title, a short excerpt, who wrote it, when, and the reply count. Pinned, announcement and global topics float to the top of whichever sort is chosen — the same thing ForumWP does on the web.
Counts past a thousand are shortened: 2,100 replies reads 2.1k, and 1,250,000 views reads 1.2M. They round down, so a count never shows higher than it really is.
A New topic button sits in the bottom corner for members who may post.
What ForumWP Pro adds
Section titled “What ForumWP Pro adds”ForumWP works perfectly well on its own. ForumWP Pro adds a handful of controls, each behind its own switch in the plugin, and the app shows each one only when that switch is on:
| Control | Needs |
|---|---|
| Up and down arrows with a score | The votes module |
| The down arrow specifically | Votes, plus Enable downvotes in ForumWP |
| The Top sort | The votes module |
| The bookmark icon on each card | The bookmarks module |
| The heart and its count on each card | The likes module |
| The Most liked sort | The likes module |
Nothing breaks without them. A core-only site gets the same feed without the arrows and the bookmark icon.
When it does not work
Section titled “When it does not work”| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The list is empty | The Forums endpoint group is off | Turn it on in Memberside → REST API |
| The card is greyed out | ForumWP is inactive | Activate it |
| No vote arrows | ForumWP Pro, or its votes module, is off | Turn the module on in ForumWP → Settings → Modules |
| No heart on a card | The likes module is off | Turn it on in ForumWP → Settings → Modules |
| No down arrow | Enable downvotes is off | Turn it on in ForumWP’s settings |
| Top is missing from the sorts | The votes module is off | Turn it on, or pick another default sort |
| No New topic button, and no Delete on your own topic | The site runs Memberside older than 2.28.1, which read every forum list as a signed-out visitor | Update Memberside |
| No New topic button | The member’s role cannot post | Check the role’s ForumWP capabilities |
| Tapping an author does nothing | No Profile feature is placed, or the setting is Don’t link | Place a Profile feature, or pick one in the setting |
