Add your products in Memberside
When you finish this page, each thing you sell in the app is set up on your WordPress site: a member who buys it on an iPhone or an Android phone gets the role or product it grants, automatically, and loses it again if the subscription lapses.
Memberside does not create products in Apple’s or Google’s stores. You create them there; this screen tells your site what each one is for. The link between the two is the product ID — the same text, typed in both places.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Your Paid Apps Agreement is Active.
- The products already exist in App Store Connect and/or Play Console, and you have their product IDs. For Apple subscriptions, see Create and link subscriptions in App Store Connect.
- The Memberside plugin is active on your WordPress site, and your store keys are saved under Memberside → API Keys → In-app purchases. See Setting up in-app purchases for those.
- To grant a product, WooCommerce is active and the product is classified as digital.
Add a product
Section titled “Add a product”-
In your WordPress admin, open Memberside → In-App Purchases.
-
Under Your app, enter your iOS bundle identifier and Android package name, then click Save. They must match the app exactly as it was built — you can copy them from the builder’s General settings.
-
Under What your products grant, click Add a product.
-
Enter a Name. Only you see it, so name it however helps you — Gold membership, monthly.
-
Choose a Type: Renews until cancelled for a subscription, Bought once, kept forever for a one-off purchase.
-
Paste the App Store product ID from App Store Connect.
-
Paste the Google Play product ID from Play Console. Leave either box empty if you do not sell on that store.
-
Under What it grants, choose A member role or A WooCommerce product.
-
Choose the Member role or Product itself. For a role, also choose what happens to Their current role: keep it and add the new one, or replace it.
-
Click Save.
Repeat for each thing you sell. A monthly and a yearly plan are two products, even when they grant the same role.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Your own label for the product. Members never see it — they see the store’s name and price. | Empty |
| Type | Whether the purchase renews. Must match how you created it in the store: a subscription in App Store Connect is Renews until cancelled, a non-consumable is Bought once, kept forever. | Renews until cancelled |
| App Store product ID | The Product ID from App Store Connect. Case and punctuation count. | Empty |
| Google Play product ID | The Product ID from Play Console. | Empty |
| What it grants | A member role gives the member any WordPress role — your Ultimate Member roles included, though Ultimate Member isn’t required — while the purchase is active and takes it back when it ends; no order is created. A WooCommerce product places a paid order, so your existing emails, reports and role rules run as they do for a website purchase. | — |
| Their current role (member role only) | Keep it, and add this role adds the role beside every role the member already has, and takes away only that role when the purchase ends. Replace it with this role leaves the member with just this role, and gives their old roles back when the purchase ends. Changing it later affects new purchases only. | Keep it, and add this role |
| Accept Apple sandbox purchases (under Your app) | Lets TestFlight and sandbox purchases grant real access. Switch it on while you test, and off before you launch. | Off |
Both product ID boxes grant the same thing. A member who subscribed on an iPhone and later signs in on Android keeps their access.
Sell it in your app
Section titled “Sell it in your app”Products on this screen are not shown in the app on their own. Choose where members buy them:
- In your shop. In the builder, open Global settings → Store and choose Sell them through the App Store and Google Play. Digital WooCommerce products then sell through the store instead of your checkout. See Selling digital products in your app.
- On any screen. Add a Buy Button for one product, or In App Products for a list, to a template screen. These can sell a product that grants a role, which has no shop tile. See Buy Button and In App Products.
Then rebuild the app. A product added later appears in the In App Products list without a rebuild.
What your members see
Section titled “What your members see”Your members never see this screen. In the app they see the store’s own product name and price, and the store’s own purchase sheet.
Once a purchase succeeds, the app says Purchase complete and gives the member what the product grants straight away. A screen restricted to the role it grants opens without signing out and in again. Where the app goes next is set on each placed screen; see After a successful purchase. The native shop has its own After a successful purchase, go to setting on Products.
A product the member already holds keeps its name and price and is marked Owned. A subscription offers Manage, which opens the store’s own subscription screen; a one-off product reads Owned and cannot be bought again.
Restore purchases tells the member what it found: how many purchases it restored, or that there was nothing to restore for the store account on that phone. A refunded or expired purchase is not restored.
When it doesn’t work
Section titled “When it doesn’t work”The builder says “This site has no in-app products yet”. Nothing has been saved under What your products grant, or the builder is looking at a different site. Add a product, then reopen the panel and check Products from names the right app.
The product shows “does not offer this product yet” in the app. The product ID here does not
match the store’s, or the store product is not ready. Copy the ID again from App Store Connect —
gold_monthly and Gold_Monthly are different products — and check the product’s status reads
Ready to Submit or Approved.
The buy button never shows a price. Usually the store, not your site: the Paid Apps Agreement is not Active, or the product was created less than an hour ago.
A lifetime purchase behaves like a subscription, or will not load. It was created under Subscriptions in App Store Connect. A one-off must be an In-App Purchase of type Non-Consumable. Create it again as a non-consumable with a new product ID — Apple never lets you reuse an old one.
The purchase succeeds but the member gets nothing. The bundle identifier or package name under Your app does not match the app that was built, or, while testing, Accept Apple sandbox purchases is off.
An Android purchase of a one-off product never completes. The site checked it as a subscription, which Google answers with “not found”. Update the Memberside plugin to 2.72.0 or later, which checks one-off products as products. A member who bought one before you updated still owns it in Google Play: after the update, Restore purchases gives it to them.
A refunded purchase came back after Restore purchases. Sites on plugins older than 2.72.0 re-granted a refunded App Store purchase when a member restored. Update the plugin. From 2.72.0 a refund is read from Apple’s own record of the purchase, and an old receipt cannot undo it.
A one-off product on Android says it is waiting for payment. The member chose a payment method that clears later, such as cash at a shop. The app keeps the purchase open, and it is granted once Google confirms the payment.
A WooCommerce product is missing from the Product list. Only digital products are listed. Stock-managed products, variations and WooCommerce Subscriptions products are refused; each refusal says what to change.
