Directory
Gives your members a browsable list of everyone in the community, with the search and filters your Ultimate Member directory defines.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”| Plugin | Ultimate Member |
| Endpoint groups | Directory, Users |
| Plan | Every plan |
The member directory itself must opt into the API. Tick Show this form to REST API on the directory in Ultimate Member → Member Directories. Until you do, the directory picker in the tab’s settings is empty. See Forms and directories.
Add it to your app
Section titled “Add it to your app”- Drag Directory onto a navigation bar.
- Open its settings and choose which member directory to show.
- Set a Title under Appearance.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Member directory | Which um_directory to render | None — you must choose one |
| Title, Description | Shown at the top of the screen | Empty |
| Restrictions | Which roles see the tab | Everyone |
Layout, sorting, the filters offered and how many members load per page all come from the directory’s own configuration in Ultimate Member, not from the builder. Change them there and the app follows.
What your members see
Section titled “What your members see”A searchable list of members. Filters render as the directory defines them, including multi-select filters such as user tags, which appear as chips.
Scrolling loads more members rather than paging through numbered pages.
Avatar shape and row density come from User Lists in Appearance, so the directory matches followers and group member lists rather than looking like its own screen.

When it does not work
Section titled “When it does not work”| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The directory picker is empty | No directory has opted into the API | Tick Show this form to REST API on it |
| The screen is empty | The Directory group is off | Enable it under Memberside → REST API |
| Members are listed without names or avatars | The Users group is off | Enable it |
| A filter is missing | It is not configured on the directory | Add it in Ultimate Member |
| Tapping a member does nothing | No Profile feature is placed | Place one |
| Fewer members than on the website | The directory’s own role or status rules | Check its configuration |
On a large community, a slow directory is the usual first symptom of scale — see Memberside Optimizer.
